UK Paternity Leave Rules
In the UK, paternity leave rules are as follows:
- Total Leave Duration: 2 weeks
- Paid Leave: 2 weeks
- Pay Rate: £172.48 per week or 90% of average weekly earnings (whichever is lower)
- Qualifying Period: Must work for employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the qualifying week
- Minimum Earnings: £120 per week (average) in the 8 weeks before the qualifying week
- Qualifying Week: The 15th week before your expected week of childbirth
- Timing: Must be taken within 56 days of birth, in one continuous block
Note: Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) is paid by your employer. You may also be eligible for Shared Parental Leave if your partner ends her maternity leave early.
